The Future Medic Club is our brand new after school club for pupils in years 4, 5 & 6 at Primary Schools across the UK.
We launch the Club with an assembly in the term before they run, followed by FIVE different 1 hour sessions that run in the following term.
Below is an example of the assembly as well as guidance on the 5 different sessions that are all colour coded – Orange, Pink, Red, Blue and Green
The sessions can run in ANY order, so any reference to which number the session is in the rota, is only a reflection on the number of sessions that have been delivered.
Your in person assembly typically lasts around 15-20minutes.
We use 3 pieces of kit to show off some of the activities with volunteers from the audience.
The kit we typically use is a pulse doppler (remember some gel!), a vein scanner (remember the charger!) and either an ophthalmoscope or an ECG.
There is a set of ppt slides or images to accompany the assembly, but I have found these don’t really add to the assembly – so dont worry about using them – just pull up the image of the FMC on the webpage using the link below.
However, there is a short video you MUST play in the assembly, link is below to the page where the ppt / images and video are. You can use the school laptop to play this, make sure you play it once before the assembly to ensure the video plays ok.
The video on this page is a digital version of the assembly that some schools use if they don’t want it in person. However the structure is the same, so watch the video to see what to include in your assembly.
Basic Assembly Structure
Check List of Things to Take

The Future Medic Club Sessions are split into 5 x 1 hour sessions, each with a different theme.
In the rota they are numbers 1 through to 5 to tell us how many sessions have been delivered.
The theme of the workshop is dictated by a colour – Orange, Pink, Red, Blue and Green – these are also the colours of each worksheet.
The majority of the activities are taken from our normal workshops, however there are some additional activities which you may not have seen before. The videos below take you through ALL of the activities, with a focus on the lesser known ones.
You can also download the worksheet to see what that looks like in advance too. Some are a single A4 sheet printed on both sides (2 pages), whilst others are 4 pages like our standard workshop workbook.
THere’s a quick run through of what to do in the run up to and upon your arrival at the school.
Things you will need:
– DBS – either physical or picture (we send in advance too)
– Photo ID – drivers license or passport
– Kit for the day
– Worksheets for the session
– Register (see Ivan or Tom)
THere’s a quick run through of what to do at the end of each session.
What is really important is making sure pupils go to an adult from the door and you don’t just let them leave! Some schools help supervise this, whilst other it is down to us alone.
– Finish the session in good time so pupils can collect their things
– Make sure all worksheets have been picked up – so they can show their parents!! – Very Important 🙂
– Check no jumpers, ties, water bottles etc have been left
– Line them up in the classroom and lead them down the door.
– Only let a pupil leave when they can see their parent / adult
– Pakc up kit and make sure you don’t leave anything behind! Especially chargers, height charts and Snellen Charts!
